Streaming for Good this September

Host a charity stream on Twitch this September and help improve digital inclusion for Big Issue vendors. Gamers, artists, chatters and more welcome!

The Big Issue Foundation’s charity stream challenge, Side Quest, is here!

The Big Issue Foundation is excited to be launching our very first streaming challenge, Side Quest, on Tiltify.

The pandemic has forever changed the way we live, with parts of our lives moving online and becoming virtual – including events. Naturally, streaming surged in popularity all over the world.

Streaming is when someone broadcasts a live video online of them doing an activity such as gaming, cooking, creating art, or performing a challenge. This is the same for a charity stream, but everyone who tunes in to watch the livestream is encouraged to donate money towards the cause the streamer is fundraising for.

Side Quest, which is part of our Digital Literacy initiative, will bring awareness to the growing digital divide and its connections to poverty and inequality. As the world moves online, digital literacy can be the difference between affording daily living costs and being trapped in poverty. We want to ensure everyone can benefit from the internet and technology, regardless of their background or income.

By signing up for Side Quest, streamers will be raising funds to ensure that every Big Issue vendor gets the support they need to have access to and gain the skills to use a smartphone, a computer, and the internet.

Side Quest streamers have the flexibility to choose their activity, the length of their stream, and even their goal for donations. Streamers will even receive exclusive Big Issue Foundation prizes if they are successful in fundraising a certain amount of money.

It is our hope that with this challenge, we will not only appeal to a wider audience of our supporters, but also be able to use the popularity of streaming to raise awareness for the growing link between poverty and digital illiteracy. Side Quest is our first streaming event, so we are looking forward to seeing our supporters take on this challenge.

If you’re interested or know anyone who might want to take on Side Quest, you can learn more here or send us an email at events@bigissue.com
