The Secret Showcase Presents… The Big Pancake Party

Sam Scuffham (Musician & Big Issue Foundation Ambassador) is hosting the Big Pancake Party to raise funds for The Big Issue Foundation on Pancake Tuesday.

“Over the last two years I have been involved in events that the Big Issue have put on to raise awareness for issues on homelessness. Being involved really does open your eyes as you become witness to how hard the charity and their volunteers work to help vendors to improve their lives. I have heard triumphant stories from vendors about how the with help and opportunities the Big Issue Foundation have been able to provide, they have turned their lives around. As much as we all love a success story, It's hard for any charity to be able to provide for everyone who is in need but I believe that if we could all do something we enjoy and raise a little more money for a charity we feel passionate about at the same time we can all make a difference to help extend the opportunities to reach out to more people. More success stories all around please… With a pancake for good measure.” Sam Scuffham.

The Secret Showcase Presents is back this year with its second annual yummy fundraiser on the 12th of February. We will be celebrating Shrove Tuesday by cooking pancakes and enjoying live music to raise funds for the Big Issue Foundation, a national charity which connects Big Issue vendors with the vital support and solutions that enables them to rebuild their lives and help them on their journey away from homelessness.

The Secret Showcase Big Pancake Party will be held at the infamous Macbeth in Hoxton. 70 Hoxton St, City of London, N1 6LP. We will be entertained by the best musicians in town, guaranteed to have us all up on our feet celebrating the great work that the foundation does to help homeless and vulnerable people to improve their lives. There will be a minimum donation of £3 on the door and gold coin donation if you fancy a pancake or two.

Live bands include…

CC Smugglers

CC Smugglers are a rag tag 6 piece from the wilds of Bedfordshire who formed in 2009, they have recently completed their debut album, an infectious stew of gypsy jazz, blues, folk, country and roots. They have built a reputation for great live shows both locally and further from home and have returned from a successful summer on the festival circuit to perform a few select shows in the run up to the album release later this year. –

Burning Condors

Burning Condors are four London lads getting scenesters talking with a sound that owes as much to the likes of Stray Cats, and Eddie Cochrane as to The Libertines and Arctic Monkeys. They have created a genuinely unique and exciting sound that is firmly rooted in the blues, rockabilly and country, but given a big kick in the arse by a punk attitude that has seen some of the aforementioned scenesters cleverly label as “punkabilly”. –

Ben Gunn

Ben is a Blues, soaked Alternative, Rhythm & Blues, Skiffle singer songwriter with a tendency for covering a few old classics. HIs new album ”Skiffle and Grit” draws heavily on the passion of Big Bill Broonzy and Leadbelly while mixing it with the energy and emotion of rhythm and blues to excite and entertain a new generation. With homemade percussion instruments such as tea chests, bin lids and washboards played by new souls in the 21st century creating an enthusiasm that has been missing from music for a long time. –
