The Big Issue’s kids Christmas cover competition 2019

It’s (nearly) the most wonderful time of the year. We want kids to express their inner artists and design a cover that will help our vendors on busy high streets this festive season

Our annual kids cover competition has become a much-loved Christmas tradition for our readers. Are you – or do you know – a talented young artist who would like to enter this year?

Since the first competition in 2013 we’ve seen thousands of brilliant, jolly and bright entries from our young readers. The winning images have lifted the spirits of customers and boosted sales for our vendors.

This year, with the country divided by politics, we are asking for entries around the theme ‘together’. We know the young artists will come up with ideas that’ll knock our socks off and unite us all again just in time for Christmas.

Designs can take any form, from drawings to paintings to digital art. So have your pens, pencils, crayons and tablets at the ready.

Apart from the winning design being on the front of hundreds of thousands of magazines sold across Britain, we will also be offering a special prize for the best group entry – from a school or nursery class or any other creative group of youngsters who send in a bundle of entries. So tell your parents, teachers and youth workers to get involved!

“I can’t wait to see all of the entries filling postbags,” said Big Issue editor Paul McNamee. “The Kids Cover Competition has become a tradition we look forward to each year. Big Issue vendors have a hard time on the streets in wintertime but nothing lifts spirits more than the incredible ideas that are sent in to us.

“A big thank you to all those who take the time to enter, all to help The Big Issue vendors. It’s hugely humbling and encouraging. Settling on a winner is a very tough task. Don’t delay. Get your entry in today!”

We’re incredibly excited to reveal that joining this year’s judging panel will be comedian and acclaimed author of The Bolds children’s books, Julian Clary. Look out for more from him soon!

HOW TO ENTER

Anyone aged 13 or under is eligible to enter. We print as many entries as we can squeeze into the magazine’s pages, and all entries will feature in our spectacular online gallery. Unfortunately, we can’t return artwork.

Post your entries to: Christmas Kids Cover Competition, The Big Issue, 43 Bath Street, Glasgow, G2 1HW

Email high-resolution pictures to:
editorial@bigissue.com

Make sure you include a name, age, address and telephone or email contact on all entries

This competition is now closed – and the entries were great!
