The artworks below come from an exhibition celebrating 50 years of punk, curated by Haus of Lucy. Lucy sought out artists who embody punk attitude. It features John Lydon; Gee Vaucher of art collective and punk band Crass; and the late Jamie Reid, the visual artist whose artwork for Never Mind the Bollocks… and God Save the Queen helped define punk.
Alongside these punk giants, who are generously donating their work to raise money for Big Issue, the exhibition also features remarkable works by artists and photographers celebrating the bold, rebellious spirit of punk. Highlights include original artworks, screen prints, mosaics, photographs, and more by: Adrian Boot, BOD, Carrie Reichardt, Dr D, Foka Wolf, Grow Up, Hannah Shillito, Haus of Lucy, Jack Blam, Jeremy Cunningham, Kirsteen Adams, Lolly Golding, Magda Archer, Mark Denton, Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer, Phill Jupitus, Pure Evil, Shuby, Stanley Donwood and signed photographs by Spike Waltzer.
Artist Lolly Golding lives and works from her 1930s circus wagon in Somerset. She has commemorated one of the most punk, rock’n’roll events ever:
“That legendary (though it could be an urban myth?) 1989 night in Bangkok; when after partying for three weeks continuously and when the hotel he was staying in tried but failed to evict him, Billy Idol had to be shot with a tranquilizer gun by the authorities to bring the party to an end. The painting is called SHOT IN THE CITY TONIGHT.”
My big issue
It’s the same as it has always been… injustice. As a child, my favourite Enid Blyton character was Mr Pink-Whistle. He would wander around looking for wrongs to right in an amusing way, and if he had a catchphrase it would have been: ‘It’s not fair!’ He spent his time trying his best to make things fair. That little dude had a big impact on me. Everyone could do with a little Pink-Whistle in his or her lives.

There’s been a lot: standing for parliament in the 1997 elections whilst living in a double-decker bus and classed as NFA (no fixed address) was a hoot. Chainsaw carving a totem pole for the first Shangri-La at Glastonbury. Leaving a life-sized fibre glass baby camel I made in a field on the M5 next to Humphrey the camel on Xmas Eve as a gift to the people of Somerset…
Dr D (Damon)
Dr D is a London-based artist and ‘subvertiser’. Using a cut and paste technique developed in the fly posting industry of the ’90s to ‘doctor’ everything from big brand billboards to political posters

I really want to create a multi arts and community venue in Hillingdon. It’s a cultural vacuum. If anyone reading this has got a few million in their back pocket, give me a shout. Apparently if you manifest it, it happens, I’m still waiting.

In the fly posting game and then street art there’s been a few liberties taken over the years but the one that still makes me laugh is in 2018 when I stencilled a menu onto the pavement not far from the entrance to the Russian Embassy. “COME DINE AT THE RUSSIAN EMBASSY – PASTA POLONIUM – SARIN SPAGHETTI & NOVICHOKOLATE – WHO KNOWS WHAT WE PUT IN.”
A portrait artist living in Weymouth who says a painting is finished “when I catch it in the corner of my eye and feel creeped out at someone watching me”.
My big issue
My Big Issue at the moment is when walking along a path and then seeing someone join the same path 100 yards ahead and start walking in my direction, on the same side of the path. This suddenly puts me in the quandary of whether or not to move to the other side of the path I’m walking on in order to avoid bumping into this person as they get closer. But I was on the path first, so why should I be the one to move? So I keep walking and so do they, still on the same side till we get about within 10 yards of each other and I feel I have to move and let them win. We both pass each other. One of us looks at our phone, the other one coughs as they pass. Absolute psychopaths.

Has to be the time I was an all-day punk gig in Nottingham in the mid-’90s and had to go for a shit after holding it off for so long, fearing the toilets in the venue. My fears weren’t disappointed as when I opened the cubicle door, I saw the toilet lid was down with a fresh human turd curled out on top of it.
Jack Blam
My big issue
Student debt, wealth disparity, general lack of investment in young people and the arts, slow walkers.

Dropping out of art uni to commit to being an artist full time.
John Lydon
The former Sex Pistols and PiL frontman contributed his artwork from the cover of his 2020 book I Could Be Wrong, I Could Be Right

Stanley Donwood
The artist and writer best known for the Radiohead artwork he’s created with singer Thom Yorke contributed a screen print of Fuckin Thief (Golden Words)
Mark Denton
Witty, surreal, playful, silly artist-of-the-people. This image features on the cover of Issue 1708 of the magazine.
My big issue
There’s not enough JOY in the world (imho) – Let’s stop fighting and have a laugh. Genuinely, I don’t see enough happy faces nowadays. If I can bring people together by creating art that generates a few smiles, then my work is done.
Shuby
Street and studio artist creating playful, subversive narratives, known for her recurring banana motif

I feel very strongly about gender equality. My art playfully challenges ideas around sexual stereotypes by subverting retro imagery.

Sitting in a cafe in Canterbury with a group of teenagers with flat tops and mohicans, managing to make one cup of tea last for about four hours. The owners were very patient and would sell us single cigs for 10p.
MrB The Gentleman Rhymer
Musician, writer, artist and the inventor of Chap-Hop, a particularly British take on rap
My big issue
Where do we start? From the big questions of hypocrisy and greed right down to my annoyance with people who cup the microphone. The themes of most of my work, when I step back, seem to be humour and death. Socio-politically (and otherwise) we absolutely need one and we absolutely can’t avoid the other.

Probably bonding with legendary Clash tour manager Johnny Green over our nice linen suits at a festival.
Hannah Shillito
In Queen Vivienne, Brighton-based artist Shillito pays tribute to the late designer – and punk royalty – Vivienne Westwood with a nod to her iconic King’s Road boutique
Jamie Reid

AI. That shit’s always learning – we aren’t.

I’ve got loads! The one with most repercussions was playing the Peckham Dole House squat after the poll tax riot in Trafalgar Square. We’d handed out flyers for the gig throughout the march, which were found by police on protesters they’d nicked. It led to Levellers being followed by MI5 for six months and many cancelled shows!
Phill Jupitus
The actor, poet and comedian’s artwork references The Clash’s Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry-produced September 1977 single
Haus of Lucy
Bricolage artist, marrying the old fashioned and unloved with the contemporary

I have loads! That there are countries in the world where a woman is denied an education, cannot leave her home without a male chaperone and cannot speak louder than a whisper in public. That there are children living on rubbish dumps while others live in marble palaces. That homelessness is still an issue in 2026. That our beautiful planet is burning and we are in real trouble of fucking it up for good.
My most punk moment
When I was 15, I was arrested for my part in an attempt to sabotage a hare hunt. The court case took a week and I was charged with breach of the peace. I had to give evidence in an adult court and I’ve never been so scared in my life. My other punk rock moment was quitting my job in 2019 to pursue a full-time art career, which was a big move for someone so risk averse.
