‘We’re all Tory MPs now’: Sleaford Mods take aim at Jeremy Clarkson, Piers Morgan and Nadine Dorries in new video

The Cold War Steve-directed video sees the Nottingham duo poke fun at post-Brexit Britain

Cold War Steve has taken aim at Nadine Dorries, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Piers Morgan, Jeremy Clarkson and Nigel Farage in a scathing new video for Sleaford Mods.

The video for UK GRIM, the title track from the Nottingham duo’s new album, is directed by the post-Brexit collage provocateur and pokes fun at tropes of dispiriting Britishness such as the jeans and sheux beloved by rugby fans, and Eton College.

“Maybe we are proud of the country. Maybe we are proud to be English,” said vocalist Jason Williamson, explaining the track as an attack on ruling classes and a celebration of individuals and idealists.

“Maybe I’m proud of the horrible grey streets and the shit weather and the stupid fashions I find myself investing in. It’s just that the English we’re proud of being is absolutely nothing like the English the authorities want to try and promote.”

The band will be playing two shows, in Nottingham and London, to promote the record, which features guest appearances from Dry Cleaning singer Florence Shaw and Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction.

Sleaford Mods’ previous albums include Eton Alive and English Tapas, and the duo were drawn into a war of words with Noel Gallagher in which he described them as shouting about “fucking cider and fucking shit chicken”.

Gallagher, said frontman Jason Williamson, had “blood on his hands” for making the Mod scene too retro.

In a 2017 interview with The Big Issue, Williamson said: “All the stuff I write is because I’m pissed off with stuff. It’s fuelled by hate.”
