Angela Scanlon: ‘I’m not sure the world has a huge amount to be proud of’

The presenter got emotional watching Oasis and is buzzing about launching her new podcast, but what she really enjoys is a good kip

TV presenter and broadcaster Angela Scanlon is one of the busiest and best presenters on TV and radio. Whether presenting Your Home Made Perfect and Your Garden Made Perfect on BBC2, co-hosting The One Show, hosting Ask Me Anything on RTÉ One, appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2023 – after manifesting it in the pages of The Big Issue the previous year – or hosting her weekend morning show on Virgin Radio, Scanlon has been a pop culture fixture for the last decade.

Scanlon spent 2025 launching a bold and beautiful new podcast – Get a Grip! – with her pal, and recent Strictly Come Dancing contestant, Vicky Pattison, on which they put the world to rights.

But what did the world get right in 2025? And why is Scanlon’s revolutionary idea for the coming year to slow down and get more sleep? Read on for Angela Scanlon’s My Big Year…

What has been your standout moment of 2025?

Launching our podcast Get a Grip! It’s been in the ether for almost a year before we kicked off so it’s like birthing – nice to see it out in the world.

What do you know about yourself now that you didn’t this time last year?

That I am hideous without sleep.

What do you think the world got right this year?

I’m not sure there’s a huge amount to be proud of but… it does feel like things are changing.

What do you think the world got wrong this year?

Pretty much everything. But sometimes the darkest day is just before the dawn. I’m hopeful.

Did you see Oasis?

I saw them in Dublin and it was majestic and (don’t tell Liam) surprisingly civilised but wildly emotional.

Would you rather be a Traitor or a Faithful?

Faithful. My face doesn’t lie.

Where were you when you found out Taylor Swift was engaged?

In the kitchen making toast.

Is your job at risk from AI?

Unless AI is relentlessly driven by unresolved childhood trauma, I think I’ll be fine.

What would your browsing history say about you this year?

I am obsessed with sleep. I just bought a pillow Oprah recommended.

What is the oddest family Christmas tradition you keep?

Potato stuffing, it would be my death row meal.

What are you looking forward to in 2026?

I’ve booked a holiday. I used to be pretty last-minute booking but read a thing that says you get almost as much enjoyment in the anticipation of a holiday as you do from the actual trip so I’m greedy now.

What’s your big idea to make 2026 better than 2025?

SLOW DOWN.

Angela Scanlon will appear on The Celebrity Apprentice: Christmas Specials, coming to BBC One and iPlayer this Christmas.
