Animal Friends Insurance launches new charity mission to support animals

Animal Friends, founded to make a difference for animals everywhere, has revealed a new mission to support their founding purpose of creating a better life for every animal.

Animal Friends has announced three key multi-year partnerships with leading animal-welfare charities Blue Cross, StreetVet and Born Free that will see £1 million invested annually into animal welfare activity to help support thousands of pets, pet owners and vulnerable wildlife both at home and abroad.

Through these partnerships, Animal Friends aims to create a powerful, long-term platform that elevates animal welfare across the UK and globally – ensuring wildlife receive the protection, care and advocacy they deserve. In addition to the three charity partnerships, Animal Friends’ dedicated emergency fund will continue to provide support and funds to charities facing urgent and unforeseen circumstances.

Transforming lives of pets and owners

Animal Friends will work with Blue Cross, a charity that has supported sick, injured and homeless pets since 1897, to help fund and promote its dedicated Pet Loss Service. This partnership will support people struggling to cope with the loss of a much-loved pet, alongside a range of other vital core initiatives over the coming years.

Together, they aim to support both pets and people in need, while reinforcing Animal Friends’ commitment to championing animal welfare.

Chris Burghes, CEO at Blue Cross, said: “There has never been a more pivotal moment for pet owners and animal welfare than now. This collaboration with Animal Friends allows us to reach even more people and pets with the practical, emotional and veterinary support they need, while strengthening work to protect animals across the UK. Together, we can continue ensuring pets enjoy healthy, happy lives – and that the people who care for them never feel alone.”

Proudly protecting the human–animal bond

StreetVet, which provides free accessible veterinary care for pets belonging to those experiencing homelessness, will be supported by Animal Friends (AFI) to help deliver and scale the frontline outreach and veterinary support across the UK.

The partnership will shine a light on the importance of the profound human–animal bond between pets and their owners navigating homelessness together, while supporting StreetVet’s work across outreach locations, clinical care within partner veterinary practices, hostel and day centre accreditation programmes and wider policy engagement.

Zoe Abbotts, CEO at StreetVet, said: “Animal Friends’ support will make a profound difference to the pets and owners we meet every day at our outreach clinics, through our accredited hostel and day centre scheme or through pet owners experiencing homelessness reaching out for support and help from our clinical team. The bond between someone experiencing homelessness and their animal is often lifesaving, and our work depends on partnerships that understand and champion that connection. This long-term collaboration will help us deliver our vital services, deepen our impact and ensure that no pet in a vulnerable situation goes without the care they need and deserve.”

Keeping wildlife in the wild

Born Free brings a vital global perspective through its work protecting wild animals, promoting ethical conservation and challenging the exploitation of wild animals. Together, AFI and Born Free will champion key areas of wildlife legislation, deepen public understanding of welfare issues and support programmes in regions including Cameroon, Ethiopia and Kenya.

Will Travers OBE, Executive President of the Born Free Foundation, said: “At Born Free, collaboration has always been at the heart of our mission to ensure a better, more compassionate world for animals. That’s why I am immensely proud to announce our new three-year partnership with Animal Friends, a company that shares our deep commitment to protecting wildlife and improving animal welfare everywhere.

“Together, we will combine our expertise, resources, and passion to deliver real and lasting impact, from stewarding vital conservation projects and championing ethical tourism, to advocating for stronger animal protection laws and greater awareness of the challenges animals face every day.

“This partnership reflects a shared vision; one where people and wildlife co-exist in harmony, where compassion and action go hand in hand. By uniting our voices and our efforts, Born Free and Animal Friends can help create a brighter, safer future for wild animals and the natural world they call home.”

Support to be proud of

Richard Mills, CEO at Animal Friends, said: “Animal Friends is proud to give back to animal and conservation charities everywhere. We believe that every animal deserves a happy and healthy life, and by committing long-term funding, support and advocacy to our three partners, we are committed to creating meaningful and lasting change. We’re incredibly proud to stand alongside three charities whose values so strongly reflect our own and those of our customers.”

Together, the organisations will deliver a coordinated programme of services, education initiatives and advocacy designed to protect animals across every stage of life.

As of January 2026, Animal Friends has donated over £9 million to animal welfare charities and conservancies worldwide.
