Discover winter warmers with Cafédirect and The London Tea Company

Stave off the dropping temperatures with a cuppa that will help make the world a better place

The cold snap has officially hit. Temperatures have already plummeted to -3 degrees across parts of Britain this month, but there’s still much more to come. The first snow has settled across the Scottish hills, making it time to wrap up – that means hats, scarfs, cosy jumper and mittens. But no winter is complete without a tasty winter warmer beverage.

Regardless of where you stand in the great Tea vs Coffee battle, it’s time to pop the kettle on. Available in The Big Issue Shop, we have drinks to heat you up, all with a social echo!

Cafédirect is the UK’s first and largest 100 per cent Fairtrade hot drinks brand. They are the only tea and coffee brand to have received accreditation from the Ethical Company Organisation. With at least two out of eight seats on their board held by producers, their farmers sit at the heart of everything they do. The social enterprise has also invested 50 per cent of its profits to date into the Cafédirect Producers’ Foundation – a UK-based charity that is run by farmers, for farmers in 14 countries across the world.

Their Really Rich Roast coffee, available as both ground and whole bean, offers a nutty, chocolatey, mellow drink. It contains hand-picked Arabica beans only, which has been expertly roasted to yield their fulsome flavour. To top off their Fairtrade badges, the coffee is certified by the UK Soil Association and is certified free from the use of fertilisers and pesticides. It’s a “bit of a brute” – topping their strength guide to provide a deliciously full-bodied roast. Perfectly rounded for cafetiere, filter machine and jugs too.

The London Tea Company boast an equally impressive selection of teas, meaning if you prefer your brew to be the more traditional variety (London Breakfast) or fancy spicing it up a little (Vanilla Chai), there’s plenty for you to choose from.

Grab your cosiest blanket, pop the kettle down, settle down with a brew and wait out the winter weather – all with a social echo!
