Where to get free food for the kids (and yourself) over the coronation bank holiday weekend

Want to celebrate the coronation in style? This is where you can get free food for kids (and yourself) this bank holiday weekend

Fancy celebrating the coronation like a king? There’s no better way than with free food for yourself, the kids and the entire family!

There are plenty of freebies on offer over the coronation which you will have to bag quickly – from “coronation treat” parties to free burgers and sarnies made by an EastEnders star.

There is even a raspberry lemonade cake which you can get for free if you wear a crown or tiara and say “royal slice”. Your children will adore looking like princes and princesses for the day.

Lots of restaurants also offer free or £1 meals for kids if you buy a full-sized adult meal. Many of these offers are available all year around.

We’ve listed all the places we could find offering free food over the coronation bank holiday weekend – for kids, yourself and even for King Charles spaniels.

Where to get free food to celebrate the King’s coronation

Tesco

Tesco is hosting a “coronation treat party”, with lots of free goodies fit for a king on Saturday, May 6. You’ll be able to get the free treats at selected Tescos across the UK.

“In honour of King Charles’ Coronation, you’re royally invited to the Tesco coronation treat party,” the supermarket’s website says. “With free entry and food and drink samples fit for a king, you’ll get inspiration from royal menus and recipes to create your own celebration.”

You can find your local coronation treat party by popping in your postcode here. Make sure you get there to get your free food!

Burger King

Burger King has a buy one, get one free deal over the weekend (May 6 to May 8) in honour of the King’s coronation. Anyone who buys the Chicken Royale or Vegan Royale burger over coronation weekend will receive another one for free – because, of course, that would be Charles’s favourite on the menu.

If you’re a Club Pret member, you can get a free coronation chicken bloomer or a free coronation egg bloomer to mark the King’s coronation on Saturday.

With the membership, you can also get five hot drinks each day (with half an hour between each).

But it’s not exactly free food. It’s £30 for a month’s membership, but you can get the first month half price for £15. And if you’re a regular at Pret (where coffees cost about £3.50 to £4), that might just be worth it.

E. Pellicci

At this East London café, between 11am and 3pm on May 6, you can get a free sandwich. What’s more, that sandwich will be delivered to you by EastEnders star Shaun Williamson.

E. Pellicci has teamed up with Hellmann’s, so you’ll get a good-sized dollop of their new coronation mayo coleslaw in your sarnie. Sandwiches are first come, first served, so get there early to avoid disappointment!

Greggs

You can get a free sausage roll or vegan sausage roll from Greggs if you spend £12.50 through Just Eat this weekend. Now that’s free food which even a king would love.

“Much like Elvis was hailed the King of Rock, many have appointed Greggs as the (unofficial) King of Sausage Rolls,” Greggs’s website says.

The offer will start on Friday, May 5 and end on Monday, May 8.
