The Big Issue eBikes scheme set to launch

The Big Issue has teamed up with ShareBike to launch the scheme, with 420 bikes set to be on the streets of Bristol within weeks.

The first ever Big Issue eBikes scheme will launch in Bristol in January.

Last year The Big Issue joined forces with ShareBike to build the initiative and now, after frustrating manufacturer and supply chain delays, the eBikes team are delighted to have finally taken delivery of 420 branded bikes, which are set for the streets in a matter of weeks.

There are plans to recruit 10 workers to run repairs and manage the programme.

The Big Issue pays employees a living wage. Access to services and support will also be offered to improve lives affected by the devastating economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Norwegian firm ShareBike has operated similar successful schemes across Europe, and it is hoped the new project will provide an ethical and sustainable way to boost the environmental credentials of the UK.
