Charities in Wales offered £10 million lifeline to combat impact of Covid

The Moondance Foundation is offering vital support through lockdown to help organisations directly tackling Covid hardship.

Charities in Wales are being given a £10 million lifeline to help them combat the devastating effects of rising unemployment and financial uncertainty as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Moondance Foundation, a charitable foundation which has given away over £76 million to charitable causes since it was established in 2010, is offering much-needed help to organisations which support those struggling as a direct result of Covid.

As the first lockdown took hold in March 2020, The Moondance Foundation donated £7.5 million to over 800 charities in Wales to help them through the lockdown. The Big Issue is one of the organisations who received support, with a donation which directly enabled us to keep our vendors going with food and other support while they were unable to sell the magazine.

The impact of Covid-19 is set to continue well into 2021 as lockdowns continue and unemployment rises

Chair of Moondance, Diane Engelhardt, explained: “When the pandemic hit we immediately wanted to help, and launched a Covid-19 Relief Fund. Since March 2020 we have donated £7.5 million to over 800 charities and organisations in Wales. But there is still much to be done.

“The impact of Covid-19 is set to continue well into 2021 as lockdowns continue, unemployment rises and the enormous task of protecting the population through vaccination is in a full-on race against the rise in coronavirus cases.”

Charities or organisations that are making a genuine and valuable contribution to those most affected by the pandemic can contact the Moondance Covid-19 Relief Fund for more information at: moondancefoundation.org.uk/c19fund
