Glasgow and Edinburgh magazine vendors square off in Big Issue sell-off

Big Issue vendors in Scotland are competing for inter-city bragging rights in the very first Great Big Huge Big Issue Sell-Off on Friday.

Glasgow and Edinburgh has long revelled in competition. From cathedrals v castles, football v rugby, salt ‘n’ sauce v salt and vinegar – but now Scotland’s two biggest cities will reignite its this age-old rivalry in a wholly new way: via Big Issue sellers.

The premise is simple. This Friday (September 8), vendors throughout both cities will go head-to-head in The Great Big Huge Big Issue Sell-Off, competing to see who can sell the most copies of The Big Issue in one day.

As well as the sell-off trophy and coveted bragging rights for their respected city, top-selling vendors will also claim prizes donated
by local supermarkets.

Readers are being asked to get involved, with extra prizes up for grabs for the vendor who can garner the most mentions on Twitter. If you buy a magazine from a vendor in Glasgow or Edinburgh, let us know and give them a shout-out via @BigIssueScots with the hashtag #TBIFriday.

Thanks, as always, goes to our friends at Social Bite for supplying food and refreshment for the hardworking vendors taking part in the sell-off.

Ready, set, sell!
