Winchester vendor flicks the switch on city’s Christmas lights

Big Issue vendor kicks off the festivities in style at Yuletide extravaganza after public pick him for the job

Christmas officially hit Winchester last night as popular local Big Issue vendor Kevin Collick kicked off their festive celebrations.

Dressed up as a dazzling Christmas tree, Kevin had the honour of turning the lights on, following an online campaign led by the public and supported by his customers.

Friends of the popular Winchester vendor said he was “really excited” to be involved in the festivities ahead of the event last night.

Dance groups and choirs from Harestock Primary School Choir and The Pilgrims’ School warmed up the crowd before Kevin took to the stage for the big switch as thousands gathered to welcome in the Christmas cheer.
