Your RORA idea: Bring local authorities, businesses and creatives together

Reader Richard O’Neill says local organisations should make more efforts to come together and create jobs in their communities

Hi,

As someone who works in the creative industries/arts I’m seeing and hearing thousands of freelance creatives and those who have been made redundant who are really struggling. On the other hand we have a huge crisis on our high streets with businesses closing.

I have for a while been trying to get local authorities, businesses and creatives together to help each other and to create paid work.

I’ve written about it a few times on social media, what I have termed “Community Consumerism”, and I’m currently part of a heritage bid along with a firm of architects to help redesign an area of a Northern town. My input as a creative would be to engage people with the project through storytelling, just as I did for the Canal and River Trust “Tales from the Towpath”.

My belief is that if we can get local authorities and businesses on board with creatives and funders we can provide employment and better living better shopping and leisure areas for everyone.

The Big Issue is helping our vendors with supermarket vouchers and gift payments but we need your help to do that.

Pleasebuy this week’s magazine from the online shop ortake out a subscription to make sure we can continue to support our vendors over this difficult period. You can even link your subscription to your local vendor withour new online map.
