Street Art: Amy Winehouse and the prospects of such beautiful dreams

The Big Issue’s Street Art page gives talented, marginalised individuals an outlet for creative expression

‘Amy Winehouse’

By Bryony Marie Fry

Bryony is in her late twenties and comes from the New Forest. She has overcome addiction and homelessness and has been sober for nearly six years.

“I’ve spent a lot of time recently, reflecting on my own past, my childhood,” she says.

“This image of Amy came to mind, that pre-adolescent gaze, a mind that was capable of feeling such powerful emotion, yet emanating raw vulnerability at the same time. Eyes filled with the prospects of such beautiful dreams of stardom and success, and I wanted to envelope that snapshot in time, with a bold explosion of colour. An aura of true vibrancy, that was always there, and will never go away in spirit.”
