Dolly Parton, Dave Grohl and Billie Piper feature in Letter To My Younger Self paperback

The updated paperback edition of The Big Issue’s celebrated Letter To My Younger Self book is out now.

The paperback edition of The Big Issue’s celebrated Letter To My Younger Self book is out now and features new interviews with a host of stars.

The book is a collection of 100 of the best interviews which have run in The Big Issue’s most popular slot for over 15 years.

Some of the standout subjects who have lit up the magazine and the previous edition of the book include Paul McCartney, Olivia Colman, Philip Glass, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Julie Walters, David Tennant, will.i.am, Mary J Blige, Buzz Aldrin, Margaret Atwood, and Rod Stewart.

“It was heartening to see how many people bought and enjoyed the first edition of the book, especially as all the royalties go to The Big Issue,” said the book’s creator and editor Jane Graham.

“Over the years I have interviewed almost 800 famous high achievers for this slot. I’ve discovered a lot about human nature and how we respond to fame, wealth and power.

“I’ve also learned some salutary lessons, mainly: the love of your friends and family will mean more to you than a high profile as you grow older; don’t let your time run out before asking your parents and grandparents lots of questions, never give up; and duffel coats are punishingly hot when playing indoor gigs (thanks Jarvis).”

The updated paperback includes new interviews with Dolly Parton, who reveals what she wishes she had said to Elvis Presley and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who reveals how terrified he felt showcasing his new musical Hamilton to Barack and Michelle Obama.

It also includes interviews with Dave Grohl, who discusses the trauma of Kurt Cobain’s death, Richard Osman remembering the day his dad told him he was leaving the family and Billie Piper on her sadness at saying goodbye to David Tennant and Doctor Who.

Jarvis Cocker also recalls his teenage diary, why his younger self needed to ‘chill the fuck out’ and yes, on appropriate concert attire.

Letter To My Younger Self (Bonnier), is out now.
