Floyd Mayweather: “It is a privilege to help the homeless”

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather faces his toughest fight yet – against homelessness

Undefeated world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather faces UFC champion Conor McGregor in a multi-million dollar bout in Las Vegas later this month. Mayweather has come out of retirement for the match, likely to be the biggest, glitziest non-title fight in history. But he has taken on an even tougher challenge – battling homelessness.

Mayweather has partnered with London charity Working Action Group [WAG] to raise awareness of the issue in the UK and further afield.

Homelessness is something that our society should not tolerate

As part of his support, Floyd and his team will offer potential partners a VIP invitation to the ‘Fight of the Century’. The fight takes place on 26 August in Las Vegas and each VIP sponsorship package is worth £20,000.

Floyd Mayweather said: “Homelessness is something that our society should not tolerate and I consider it a privilege to be able to help.”

Following his fight with McGregor, Mayweather will travel to London to meet homeless people and raise awareness of the growing problem. WAG hopes that the fundraising drive will raise enough money to fund a ground-breaking converted double decker bus dubbed a Multipurpose Mobile Homeless Unit.

Juliet Ryan, Project Manager of WAG’s Action for the Homeless project explained: “Our plan is to take a fleet of disused London buses and convert them into Multipurpose Units for the homeless. Each bus will have the ability to serve up to 5000 hot meals a year as well as providing those sleeping rough with a place to shower, fresh clothes, access to the internet, training and career counselling, and even sleeping pods so they can sleep on the bus in emergencies.”

WAG works with thousands of homeless people sleeping rough on Britain’s streets, helping to improve the conditions they face by recruiting volunteers and providing food, clean clothing and career opportunities.
