Prisoner chefs to serve up meals for London’s homeless

The Clink charity will take inmate rehabilitation beyond the prison walls this June to help the homeless during London Food Month

Cooks from The Clink prison project will break out to work alongside top chefs including Michel Roux Jr and MasterChef’s Monica Galetti to cook up 2,000 gourmet meals from five tons of leftovers to provide free meals for homeless people during London Food Month.

Collaborating with food waste charity The Felix Project, the brainchild of distinguished chef Massimo Bottura, the Refettorio Felix pop-up kitchen will open from June 5 at St Cuthbert’s Centre at London Earl’s Court.

The centre – a drop-in for the vulnerable and socially marginalised – is currently undergoing a revamp with the installation of a professional kitchen. It will provide more than 30 leading British chefs with a creative workspace to turn otherwise wasted ingredients into a delicious three-course menu.

Refettorio Felix, like The Clink, works tirelessly to change lives for the better

“We are delighted to be supporting chef Massimo Bottura’s charitable food wastage project for yet another year,” said Chris Moore, chief executive of The Clink Charity.

“As a charity and as a hospitality business we always look to work in collaboration with other likeminded organisations and Refettorio Felix, like The Clink, works tirelessly to change lives for the better.

“Last year I joined Paul Clarkson, our Brixton restaurant head chef trainer, when we were lucky enough to go to Rio De Janeiro during the Olympics to work at the Refettorio Gastromotiva community kitchen and cook for the homeless.
