Top 5 books for adults to share with kids

Radio personalities and Kid Normal collaborators Greg James and Chris Smith wrote with reading together in mind. Here are their picks for other books to share with children

Kid Normalby Greg James and Chris Smith, illustrated by Erica Salcedo

OK, OK, we know it’s our own book. But hear us out! We really wanted to celebrate reading together so there are several moments in the book specifically designed to be read out loud and shared, including one point where you have to shout out of the window. You have been warned!

You’re a Bad Man, Mr Gum! by Andy Stanton, illustrated by David Tazzyman

This is our favourite book to read out loud because it basically turns you into an incredible comedian. It’s the funniest book you’ll ever read, apart from our books, obvs.

A Squash and a Squeeze by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler

All Donaldson and Scheffler’s books are sublime, but if you enjoy putting on a ‘little old lady’ voice as much as we do then this is a clear winner.

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman

You don’t have to stop sharing books just because the kids got a bit older and like Fortnite. These stories are amazing to share and discover together with your tween/teen.

You Choose by Pippa Goodheart and Nick Sharratt

Sometimes it’s not just the words in the book, it’s the conversations you have around them. This will spark hours of bedtime chat, it’s a total classic.

Kid Normal and the Loudest Library by Greg James and Chris Smith, illustrated by Erica Salcedo (Bloomsbury) is a 2020 £1 World Book Day title. This World Book Day (Thursday March 5), we want everyone to join the reading revolution and share a million stories during World Book Day month (until March 29)
